The Rehoboth Art League will offer a class in etched copper medallions from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28, in the Children’s Studio, for beginning to intermediate students, ages 15 to adult. The instructor is Heidi Lowe.
Students will learn to etch copper and cold connect found objects to create a medallion of their choice. Basic metalsmithing techniques will also be taught. The medallions will be meaningful keepsakes of a moment, person or place. Students should bring images and found objects to class.
The fee is $120 for members and $135 for nonmembers. A material fee of $65 is payable to the instructor. Lowe has been hooked on jewelry making since high school. She graduated from the Maine College of Art in Portland and received a master of fine arts in jewelry and metalsmithing from the State University of New York in New Paltz before moving to New York City. he later returned to her hometown of Rehoboth Beach where she opened a contemporary jewelry gallery located at 328 Rehoboth Avenue, featuring her work as well as the work of many other international jewelry artists.
