Concierge by the Sea-sponsored
third annual food drive begins
Concierge by the Sea Inc. is sponsoring its third annual community food drive from Sunday, Nov. 1, to Tuesday, Dec. 1.
To volunteer at the Food Basket, call Tom Starnes at 302-227-5577

The community can drop shelf-stable food or baby supplies at one of the participating businesses during regular business hours: Klabe Custom Homes, 17298 Coastal Highway; Child’s Play by the Bay, 1510 Savannah Road, Lewes; Clothes 2 You Cleaners, 36 Midway Shopping Center; or Hickman’s Meat Market, Route 1, Rehoboth Beach. Hickman’s and its clients have also donated more than 100 pounds of meat in the past two food drives.

Those interested in donating may also call Concierge by the Sea directly at 228-2014 to arrange to have items picked up. All donations will benefit the Cape Henlopen Food Basket located at 1575 Route 1 near the New Life Thrift Shop. Items that are needed include canned goods, meat, poultry, toiletries and baby products like diapers and baby food.

The Cape Henlopen Food Basket is an all-volunteer organization that provides emergency and ongoing access to food for people in need in the Cape Henlopen School District. According to organization President Tom Starnes, the Food Basket served 2,239 households and 6,644 individuals between January and September 2009. This is 520 more households and 2,055 more individuals than during the same period last year.

Since its inception in 2003, the Food Basket has served more than 10,000 households and more than 30,000 individuals. Given the current economic climate, the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, like many food banks in the state, needs more food than ever as the recession continues to affect Sussex County.

Concierge by the Sea has supported several other organizations by donating to their auctions or providing pro bono fundraising assistance including KINfolk, kinfolknet.org; CAMP Rehoboth camprehoboth.com; Rehoboth Beach Main Street, downtownrehoboth.com; Center for the Inland Bays, inlandbays.org; the Starrlight Fund; and the Delaware Children’s Museum, delawarechildrensmuseum.com.

Although Concierge by the Sea gives first preference to organizations that support the immediate local community, all organizations are welcome to send their fundraising requests with an annual report to Concierge by the Sea Inc., Attn: Community Outreach, P.O. Box 740, Lewes, DE 19958.
