| The Department of Delaware will host American Legion Auxiliary National President Rita Navarreté Monday-Thursday, Nov. 2–5.
Navarreté is the first Hispanic to be elected as president and is a lifetime member of Otero-Garcia-Navarreté Unit 72 in New Mexico. Navarreté is married and husband Tony is a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.
Navarreté is a regular volunteer at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M. She has served in a variety of American Legion Auxiliary leadership roles at the local, state and national levels.
During her stay in Delaware, Navarreté will visit the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Elsmere, attend several auxiliary unit meetings and participate in the packing of care packages for the troops in Iraq.
A luncheon will be held in her honor at the Tavern on the Circle at the Brick Hotel in Georgetown at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4.
