The March of Dimes will host its first annual Matters of Taste wine and beer tasting Thursday, Nov. 5, at Baywood Greens in Long Neck.
Six local chefs will be offering samplings of their signature dishes to be paired with beer tastings provided by Yuengling Brewery, distributed by the Standard Distributing Co., and 16 Mile Brewery, and a variety of wines provided by a local vendor. In addition to the great food, fine wine and flavorful beer, guests will be able to bid on unique auction items donated by many local businesses.
Child’s Play by the Bay, Dr. Judith Gorra of Beacon Pediatrics and the March of Dimes have teamed up for this event. The committee is still looking for local chefs, wine sponsors, corporate sponsors and auction items. Anyone interested in participating should contact Pam Armstrong in the March of Dimes office at 302-225-1020. Tickets are on sale at Child’s Play by the Bay, 1510 Savannah Road, and by calling 645-2153.
Gorra will chair the Matters of Taste event for 2009. “I am honored to be the chair of such a worthwhile event,” said Gorra. “I am delighted to be working with a national organization where money we raise will be used to help families in the state of Delaware. It’s good for our families to know that there is an organization out there providing resources if children are born premature.”
Funds raised by Matters of Taste support lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at giving every baby a healthy start.
In Delaware, premature birth is one of the most urgent infant health problems. It affects approximately 1,500 families and babies in the state and more than half a million babies each year nationally, with the number growing every day. Babies born too soon are more likely to die, have disabilities and live with lifelong challenges. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
