The Children’s Beach House recently announced the selection of local artist Steve Rogers as the featured artist for the 2009 Holiday Art Show and Silent Auction scheduled to open Friday, Dec. 4.
“We are so fortunate to have a talented cadre of artists in our beach community and Steve is one of the best. We are lucky he has agreed to honor the Children’s Beach House by being the featured artist for this year’s show,” said art Chairwoman Sharon Gillespie.
Rogers is known for his passion for boats and the seas. His paintings capture the toughness and durability of everyday working boats and the sheer beauty and stark terror of the weather and waters they work in. Not only does Rogers paint boats, he also builds them in ship model form and is a nationally recognized model ship builder.
“From the time I was old enough to hold a pencil, or a brush, I have drawn or painted,” said Rogers. “It is simply my idea of a good time.”
Though he has worked in a variety of media over the years, he enjoys working with acrylics the most. “I like the flexibility of technique that acrylics afford you,” said Rogers. “I have never ceased to be fascinated by ships and the sea and I am amazed by the craftsmanship, design and beauty in the building of a ship or even a simple skiff,” he said.
Rich Garrett, executive director of the Children’s Beach House is extremely excited Rogers has accepted the honor of featured artist for this year’s event.
“I met Steve shortly after my arrival in 2003 and he and his wife Pat Staby have been constant supporters of the Beach House, ever since,” said Garrett. “His work is beautiful and Steve exemplifies the best of local artists, he’s not only an accomplished artist, be he is an involved and supportive member of the Lewes community.”
The Annual Holiday Art Show and Sale is set for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 4-6 at the Children’s Beach House in Lewes. For more information on the event and sponsorship opportunities, contact Children’s Beach House at 302-645-9184 or visit cbhinc.org
