Ed Shockley has organized a night of music uniting with his friends from a lifetime of making music to benefit the capital campaign to raise money to repair the roof of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. The concert/dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday Nov. 20, at the Bethel Fellowship Hall.
“In some ways I am coming full circle; we used to practice at fellowship hall back in the ‘60s,” said Shockley. “I have reached out to my friends in the music world and as always everyone has responded.”
The program will include sets by vinyl shockley, Big Hat No Cattle, 33 1/3, The Reminders, Keith Mack, The Shockley Brothers and The Castaways/Creators along with a few surprises.
Original songs written by Ed Shockley will be performed by vinyl shockley. Guests might enjoy the review of their latest CD in Manna’s November issue. Joining Ed Shockley will be Kevin Walsh, Greg Mack and Mike Shockley.
Local band 33 1/3 features Terry Stuchlik, Linda Beebe, Ben King, Greg Wood, Adam Murabito and Greg Mack specializing in classic rock and vocal harmonies.
Big Hat No Cattle plays retro country music. Ed Shockley joins Billy West, Mike Shockley, Kevin Short, Larry Lynch, Stuart Vining and Chuck Workman. They surprise and delight their fans with the eclectic mix of songs.
Keith Mack is a guitarist who has toured the world with acts like Scandal, Joe Cocker and Paul Young. Keith Mack will be playing songs from his two CDs featuring his finger-style guitar picking.
The Reminders are a vocal group performing gospel music. Ed Shockley is joined by Kevin Short and songwriter John W. Thompson. Thompson is the renowned composer of many gospel classics like “Sanctuary” and “El Shaddai.” They will be performing new songs that they have written in the last year.
A Castaways and Creators reunion was an idea that Chuck Parker and Ed Shockley had been planning last year, but Chuck can only be here in spirit for the actuality of his idea. Back in 1966 these two bands were rivals for the affection of Lewes’ young people.
The Castaway were Rush Ellis, Chuck Parker, Jate Walsh, Roger Young, Mike Sing and Billy Larsen. The Creators were Ed Shockley, Bobby Weaver, Steve Folsum, Buck Ford, Charlie Gordy, Perry Short and Harry Thompson.
Of the surviving members of these bands, the concert will reunite Rush Ellis, Ed Shockley, Steve Folsum, Jate Walsh and Billy Larsen.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door with all proceeds benefiting the church’s capital campaign for necessary repairs. For more information, call the church at 302-645-9426.
