Milford Bucs roll over Cape Henlopen 48-13
Vikings still looking for away to stop run
Branden LeGrand scored from 54 yards out the first time he touched the football and from beyond 50 yards the last time he touched it early in the third quarter as Milford beat Cape 48-13 behind five LeGrand touchdowns and 208 yards on just eight carries.

“In a year where so many teams have great backs, LeGrand may be the best of them all,” said Cape coach Tom Ott, whose team fell to 1-7 and is yielding 38 points a game including a ton of yardage on the ground.

“No excuses - we are young with several guys out and injured,” Ott said. “The new defense we put in place has players in the right position but we are not controlling the line of scrimmage, and runners like LeGrand are tough to deal with when they hit that second level in the open field.”

A quick look back on the season begins with Jamie Jarmon of Indian River rushing for four touchdowns and 112 yards. That was followed by an Archmere running attack that saw backs Jake Weaver (121) and Kyle Taylor (112) each gain over 100 yards.

Desmond Sivels of Sussex Tech rushed for 303, Malcolm Yowk of Caesar Rodney gained 200-plus yards, Chris Jones of Laurel rushed for 182, Pierre Forman of Dover pushing 300 yards and LeGrand 208.

Cape hosts Sussex Central Friday, Nov. 6, for Senior Night. The Golden Knights had lost four games in a row before dominating “No D” Dover last week 47-28. The Golden Knights, who appeared in the last three state championship finals, can salvage a 6-4 season with wins over Cape and Indian River.

“Any team coached by John Wells and Dave Marvel can win the state championship any day of the week,” Ott said. “They beat a very good St. Mark’s team earlier this year. They were banged up pretty bad like us but they now have a full squad back and they are playing well. This is the seniors’ last shot at them and last home game. The community has been great to us and I hope they continue and come out and wish these guys well.”

David McDowell got open and made a great over-the-shoulder catch for a first-half touchdown from Jack McPike just before halftime.

Jerome Johnson scored in the second half for his first varsity touchdown.

NOTES - David McDowell and Jerome Johnson became the ninth and 10th different players to score this year. Both are just sophomores.

Matt Millman is out possibly for the season as a precaution after taking a blow to the head on a blindsided hit on a punt return against Dover.

The hit was legal, but Millman is such a missile on defense that he has a history of ringing his own bell.
