The expo will feature 30 tabletop exhibitor tables in addition to hors d’oeuvres provided by Seacrets, cash bar with happy hour prices, door prizes and the opportunity to network with hundreds of fellow businesspeople from the region.
Admission to the expo and mixer is free for all members of any chamber of commerce in the Delmarva area or the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association. Admission is $10 for nonmembers. The expo and mixer is sponsored by Halpern Eye Associates and PNC Bank.
The expo will be preceded at 3:30 p.m. by a guest speaker event with Vince Papale, former Philadelphia Eagles football player and the subject of the motion picture “Invincible.” His address is sponsored by Michael Loftus of CPC Financial Planning, Inc.
“The chamber is very excited to add a guest speaker portion to the expo this year,” said Chamber Membership Director Carrie Subity. “To have a person like Vince Papale there to talk to small business owners is great. His topic is so pertinent to what business owners are facing; it couldn’t have been a better fit for this year’s event.”
Papale worked as a schoolteacher and a part-time bartender in 1976, until the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie coach Dick Vermeil invited local athletes to a tryout. Papale, who was a former track star, showed up and ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, a world-class time. Vermeil offered Papale a contract on the spot, but the 30-year-old walk-on still had to overcome tremendous odds to make the team and become the oldest rookie in the history of the NFL.
He eventually became a team captain and played in the NFL for four years.
The Eagles voted Papale man of the year in 1978, for his many charitable activities. Papale’s never-say-die attitude became the inspiration for turning the Eagles into a Super Bowl team, as well as a major motion picture starring Mark Wahlberg.
Admission to the guest speaker event with Papale is $10 for any chamber of commerce member in the Delmarva region or Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association member. Advance registration is required.
