Crash claims life of Rehoboth man

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that claimed the life of Shane C. Zinser, 19, of Rehoboth Beach.

Sgt. Walter Newton, state police spokesman, said Zinser was driving a 1998 Lincoln Continental eastbound on Route 9 at about 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, when for an unknown reason he crossed into the oncoming lane, exited the north edge of the roadway and struck a fence.

A section of the fence broke through the windshield and struck Zinser in the head.  The car then swerved back onto Route 9 and continued south of the roadway before stopping.

Newton said Zinser, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His brother Evan, also 19, was transported to Beebe Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

Newton said investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.
