SCORE has offered small business mentoring and training services to Delaware since it was founded in 1960 by retired employees of the DuPont Co. It was officially announced as a national organization and recognized as an official volunteer partner of the Small Business Administration in 1964.

Today more than 12,000 SCORE volunteers serve more than 350,000 entrepreneurs each year. The Sussex SCORE branch currently has four counselors serving entrepreneurs in Sussex County with free mentoring and advice, especially important during a recession.

DID YOU KNOW?
There are 27.2 million small businesses in America, and 627,200 new businesses opened in 2008. Small businesses represent 99.7 percent of U.S. employers and are responsible for about 75 percent of the new jobs created each year.
SCORE’s provides information on a wide range of topics that affect business owners and start-up entrepreneurs. SCORE offers free and confidential business counseling, and it works very closely with the Small Business Development Center office in Georgetown. It leverages the knowledge and experience of more than 40 Delaware chapter 42 counselors and 12,000 counselors nationwide.

The SCORE Sussex branch is always looking for additional volunteer counselors. Recruits include people with large and small business experience, especially those with accounting, insurance and legal experience.
