“It doesn’t just shock the conscience of the department, but the community at large,” Georgetown Police Capt. Ralph Holm said.
Spicer was shot and killed in the line of duty on Sept. 1. His 3-year-old daughter went to live with his parents; meanwhile, his home on Alfred Street was unoccupied, Holm said.
Holm said Spicer’s father, Norman, called police Sunday, Nov. 1, after discovering a broken window panel on the rear door. Holm said money and electronics were stolen from Spicer’s home.
Holm said Georgetown police have received several call-in tips, but have developed no suspects. He said they’re eager for information – secondhand, anonymous or otherwise.
“We’re willing to accept any leads whatsoever,” he said.
Holm said this is a crime the Georgetown officers are taking personally.
“We’re going to prosecute him to the fullest extent,” Holm said.
Given the media attention paid to Spicer’s death, Holm said, it’s hard to imagine the thief not knowing who used to live at 2 Alfred St., a modest ranch.
“It’s hard to swallow,” Holm said.
Spicer’s parents were unavailable for comment.
Annie Martin, a friend of the Spicer family, said they have also suffered the loss of Norman’s cousin, who died recently from natural causes.
Spicer, 29, was shot in the face with a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol during a traffic stop in Georgetown. Shrapnel from the bullet injured his partner, Cpl. Shawn Brittingham.
Police arrested Christopher Reeves, 20, of Lincoln, and Derrick Powell, 22, of Cumberland, Md. Reeves is charged with resisting arrest; Powell is charged with Spicer’s murder. Both await indictments in Superior Court in Georgetown.
