| A special fundraising event will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach, to benefit the family of Brian Tappan, a Cape Henlopen High School senior who was injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident this past summer in Maine.
The event will feature barbecued chicken, beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches from Bethany Blues Restaurant for $3, plus a Chinese auction with local business items and gift certificates. Proceeds will help the family defray Tappan’s substantial medical expenses.
Tappan suffered a serious spinal cord injury and had to wait two hours for rescue.
Since the summer, he has undergone several surgeries and eventually was transferred to a rehabilitation center in Philadelphia. The nature of his injury classifies him as a quadriplegic, but he has retained the use of his arms and hands.
He was able to return home and is continuing his studies at Cape, but his medical needs are ongoing.
The Starboard is on Route 1 at Saulsbury Street. For more information, call 302-227-4600.
