New owners reopen Vintage
Café along Broadkill River
Fresh food includes homestyle bakery
Vicky and Bill Apostolopoulous, a brother-and-sister team, in mid-January took over ownership of Milton’s Vintage Café, a long-standing eatery on the Broadkill River. Now the café offers a new twist on old favorites for breakfast and lunch.

Bill, who said he holds a culinary degree from Montreal’s Hotel Institute, makes daily fresh cranberry-orange, blueberry, cinnamon and chocolate-chip scones. Blueberry, banana-nut and apple muffins are also baked fresh in-house each day.

For $6.95, a western-style omelet combines ham, cheddar cheese, pepper and onions and is served with a hash-brown casserole and toast, one of seven omelets on the breakfast menu.
Breakfast sandwiches also include choices of scrapple, sausage, bacon, egg and cheese on fresh bagels.

Vicky says the Apostolopoulous family is not new to the restaurant business. From 1957 to 1981, her father, Tony, owned the family-style Delaware Room on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.

Vicky, of Milford, chose to open her business in Milton. “We both thought this was an awesome location with the quaint charm of this small town and truly nice people in the surrounding businesses,” she said.

For lunch, the Union Club, at $7.95, is the most popular sandwich, she said. The triple-stacked sandwich offers a choice of turkey, ham, tuna or chicken salad topped with bacon, lettuce and tomato. “Our roast beef is unbelievable,” said Vicky.

The Beef and Bleu sandwich, for $6.95, has roasted red peppers and roast beef with crumbled bleu cheese and onions. The classic French Dip has roast beef and Swiss cheese with horseradish and au jus on the side, for $7.95. Customers can choose from a selection of a dozen sandwiches and side dishes including Greek pasta salad, coleslaw or macaroni salad.

Salads, a kid menu and soup-and-salad combinations are also on the menu.

But if customers don’t see a favorite listed, they are invited to create sandwiches and breakfast to their liking.

“Our motto is ‘Just ask and we’ll try.’ If we have it in house, we’ll do our best to make it for you,” she said.

Vintage Café, at 113 Union St., has 15 outdoor seats and 15 seats inside. The café is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday until summer. Customers can expect expanded summer hours. For more information, call 302-329-9643.
