Bradley attorney steps down
Eugene Maurer no longer works for former Lewes pediatrician
The arraignment of former Lewes pediatrician and accused pedophile Dr. Earl Bradley – originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 24 – has been continued, and it appears Bradley will be looking for new representation.

According to the Department of Justice, Wilmington attorney Gene Maurer is no longer representing Bradley.

Spokesman Jason Miller said if Bradley does not find a new attorney, he would be represented by the Public Defender’s Office.

Brendan O’Neill of the Public Defender’s Office said a team from the office would be meeting with Bradley during the night of Thursday, March 18.

“We’ll meet with him and talk with him and determine if he’s eligible for representation. If he is, then we’ll begin our work on his behalf,” O’Neill said.

He said as of now, the office does not know what kind of defense it will put forward on Bradley’s behalf, since representatives have not yet met with him. O’Neill said it has also not been determined what lawyers will be handling the case.

O’Neill said it frequently happens at the start of a case for the Public Defender’s Office to step in if a defendant’s private counsel has stepped aside for whatever reason. When asked why Maurer stepped down, O’Neill said, “You’d have to ask his attorney.”

Maurer could not be reached for comment.

Sussex County Superior Court has not scheduled a new arraignment date for Bradley.
