Events This Weekend in Delaware and Maryland

It's hard to believe that we're now less than two weeks away from Christmas and all of the festive cheer, special time with family, and unique traditions that come with celebrating the holiday season.

This week's events blog is almost exclusively filled with holiday events, with a couple of notable exceptions like the Ocean City ComicCon and Army-Navy Football Game. Keep reading below for much more on everything that's happening during the extended weekend of December 13-15 in the coastal regions of Delaware and Maryland and beyond.

Candy Cane Lane Holiday Extravaganza (December 14)

This special holiday event will be held at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes on Saturday, December 14, and is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

More than 120 small businesses and crafters will be on-site offering unique holiday gift ideas. Visitors can also expect visits with Santa Claus, door prizes, hot chocolate, and more.

Admission is $2 for adults and kids 12 and under are admitted for free.

Rehoboth Art League Holiday Open House (December 14)

The Rehoboth Art League will be holding its annual holiday open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its historic campus in Henlopen Acres.

The campus and the gallery will be decoated for the season, providing a festive atmosphere while visitors search for those special holiday gifts. Live music is also scheduled throughout the course of the event.

Women's Club of Milton Holiday House Tour (December 14)

The Women's Club of Milton will be holding its annual holiday house tour this Saturday, December 14, between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m.

A nice selection of homes in the Milton area will again be decked out for the holidays and welcoming visitors during this fun and festival holiday happening. The cost for this year's tour is $25 in advance or $30 on-site the day of the event.

Schellville Enchanted Winter Celebration (Through the Holidays)

The always fun and popular winter celebration at Schellville has quickly become one of the staples of the holiday season here at the Delaware beaches.

A change this year for the popular holiday event - no tickets are required for entry during the 2024 run. Just come out and enjoy the festivities!

Popular activities at Schellville will again include the outdoor roller skating rink, a sled hill, train rides, a snow zone, live music, a tree maze, nearly two dozen miniature themed houses, concessions, and a lot more.

Schellville is located behind Tanger Outlets Seaside on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.

Harry K Foundation Christmas Gala (December 14)

This 12th annual event is being held at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club on the evening of Saturday, December 14. The gala is scheduled to run from 6 until 11 p.m.

Attendees can expect a "festive event of giving, community, and celebration." All proceeds raised during the event will be used to further the Harry K Foundation's mission of combating childhood hunger in Delaware.

Scheduled activities include gourmet dining, dancing, both silent and live auctions, casino games, and music by both the Funsters and Bob Yesbek-2nd Time Around.

Polar Express Pajama Party (December 15)

Join your friends and neighbors for a fun holiday pajama party this Sunday, December 15, at the one-and-only Milton Theatre in downtown Milton. This special screening of the classic film "Polar Express" begins at 10 a.m.

Organizers invite everyone to come to the theatre wearing their comfiest pajamas and exhibiting the spirit of the season for a fun morning of holiday cheer and fun. Peppermint hot chocolate will be available for purchase before the film and special pre-show activities have also been planned.

Holiday Creative Market (December 14, 21)

More than 20 handmade vendors, live music, and food trucks headline this special event that is being held on both December 14 and December 21 on Central Street in Rehoboth Beach.

Scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this event also features a "Creative Market Bar" and plenty of holiday cheer at the beach.

Live music is provided by Tim Jaudon on December 14 and by Al Frantic on December 21. Changing Mains is the highlighted food truck this Saturday followed by Shore Island next weekend.

Ocean City ComicCon (December 14-15)

"A weekend of geeky fun" is planned for the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City this Saturday and Sunday as the popular Ocean City ComicCon returns for 2024.

Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, planned events and activities include a cosplay contest, special guests, informative panels, anime screenings, video games, and a large convention floor of vendors and independent artists.

Admission price for ComicCon is $15 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday, or $20 for the weekend. Kids 9 and under are free with a paying adult. Discounts of $1 are also available if you bring a canned good or are dressed in costume for the event.

SantaCon (December 14)

The Crawl Street Tavern on Wicomico Street in Ocean City is hosting this special Santa-themed event on Saturday, December 14, beginning at 8 a.m. and running all day.

Scheduled to benefit Kenille's Cupboard Pet Pantry, visitors are asked to "don their best Santa garb, grab some friends, and enjoy a jolly time of music, holiday, cheer, and a welcoming atmosphere."

Local bands and disc jockeys will be belting out holiday music all day and providing a festive backdrop to this fun holiday event in Maryland's most popular seaside resort.

Spirit of Christmas in Historic New Castle (December 14)

This annual celebration of Christmas will take place on Saturday, December 14, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the downtown district of historic New Castle.

The popular holiday event generally draws large crowds and offers tours of holiday-adorned local homes, two separate Christmas markets, street theater, music performances, visits with Santa Claus, and much more.

The day concludes with the annual tree lighting in the town square at 4:30 p.m.
