Wicomico County residents may be seeing a few more beards and moustaches around town once the Brothers of the Brush facial hair growing contest begins June 3.
The contest is being held as part of the County’s 150 Year Celebration. Back when Wicomico County celebrated 100 years, in 1967, there was a beard growing contest. Now, the contest has returned as the County honors this sesquicentennial milestone.
The contest launch is set for Saturday, June 3, at 7 p.m. on the main stage at the Downtown Salisbury Festival. Barber Eric Ludwig of Eric Ludwig’s Downtown Barbershop will shave selected participants in the fastest growing beard category. Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver will also read a proclamation to recognize June 3 as the beginning of the Brothers of the Brush competition.
Other categories include moustache, partial beard, full beard, most unusual and worst beard. Competitors have a chance to win sesquicentennial prizes and trophies, and it is free to participate.
Judging will take place Friday, Sept. 15, in conjunction with 3rd Friday in downtown Salisbury. For a participant to qualify for prizes, the registration form must be received by Friday, Sept. 1.
At the contest launch, people can also pick up information or register. The contest rules and registration form can be found at http://www.wicomicocounty.org/653/Wicomico-County-150-Year-Celebration, along with a schedule of other 150 Year Celebration events.
