‘I Feel Better Now’ wins Delaware Press Association award
Hiba Melhem Stancofski, a 500-hour certified yoga instructor and mindfulness teacher, published “I Feel Better Now” a year ago amid the pandemic. Illustrated by local artist Timothy Bada, the book introduces children to the tools of yoga and mindfulness.
“I Feel Better Now” was recently awarded first place in the children’s category in the 2022 Delaware Press Association Communications Contest. The book now advances to the national competition.
In the story, Alia sees her younger brother Tommy struggling emotionally, physically and mentally during the pandemic. She takes him on an outdoor adventure through the town of Lewes and teaches him simple yet powerful mindfulness techniques to help him feel better.
The tools of mindfulness and yoga can bring more clarity and equanimity to help people cope with difficult emotions such as stress, anxiety and sadness, and navigate life’s challenges, struggles and chaos more easily.
“I Feel Better Now” has been introduced in several Delaware schools, and Stancofski and Bada hope the book will reach children and schools well beyond the First State.
