The world premiere of “Love and Deceit,” a new film shot on location in Dover and Rehoboth Beach, is set for July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover. Produced by the local film production company September Tenth Films, the full-length movie presents a story about love, deception and second chances.
The film was written and directed by Allen Joseph Johnson and co-directed by the Rev. Warren Rhodes. All scenes were filmed in local homes and establishments in Dover and Rehoboth Beach. The Rehoboth Beach shoreline, the Boardwalk and Funland’s carousel were chosen for multiple shots and will be featured in the film.
“Viewers of the film will get a broad picture of Delaware,” said Rhodes. “We like to think that the communities will be really excited to see these places presented and will provide us other opportunities to write stories about Delaware."
The film also features local resident Rodney Davis, a pastor at the Milford Lighthouse Christian Center, who was cast as a main lead. While the other cast members come from throughout the region, the film presents several local merchants as extras to enhance the authenticity of the film.
The project took two years to complete and cost about $300,000 to produce, according to Johnson. He said venues used for shooting were provided without cost thanks to the generous support from the Dover and Rehoboth communities.
Tickets for the world premiere are currently on sale, running from $10-$15. A catered red carpet reception featuring the cast will precede the movie at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for both the reception and the movie cost $35. Call 302-678-5152 or visit the Schwartz Center Box Office to purchase tickets.
