Looking to offer a new way to share information on city initiatives and programs, Rehoboth Beach City Manager Taylour Tedder released the debut episode of his video series, “Tedder Talks,” Aug. 27.

“We hope that it offers people a fresh way to receive information about the city and ultimately to engage with the City of Rehoboth Beach,” said Lynne Coan, city spokesperson.

This is the second iteration of Tedder Talks. Tedder started the initiative while he was city manager in Boulder City, Nev.

Tedder Talks in Boulder City received steady interest and viewership as an engaging way to connect with residents and stakeholders, said Coan. The city wanted to continue it in Rehoboth Beach as a way to enhance city communications and transparency of city operations, she said.

The topic of the first episode is an introduction to Tedder’s efforts regarding making transparency a focus on the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, said Coan.

The expectation is that “Tedder Talks” will be released monthly, and the city has hired local videographer Rob Waters to help create the videos, said Coan. The contract is for $640 a month, and the funding comes out of the city manager’s budget account.

“Considering the limited video skills of staff and the lack of equipment, the city felt that it could produce a higher-quality video each month using a video professional,” said Coan

Beyond streamed meetings and limited social media posts, Coan said video is a communications tool the city hasn’t yet widely used, and it’s a medium that appeals to many as an effective way to receive information.

“Again, ‘Tedder Talks’ programming is an effort to further enhance city communications and transparency, something that both residents and commissioners have indicated that they want,” said Coan.

Videos are available on the city’s YouTube page. According to a press release issued by the city, the September video will focus on code enforcement.
