100 Women Who Care donate $16K to I Support the Girls
Members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware gathered Feb. 13 with enthusiastic volunteers of I Support the Girls for a festive, old-fashioned tea party. Hosted by Linda Willimer, ISTG Delaware founder and affiliate director, the occasion included a selection of teas served in fine china along with cranberry scones, pink cupcakes and cucumber sandwiches. A check in the amount of $11,250 was presented to ISTG.
Through an ongoing partnership with 100WWCSD, Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, based in Minnesota, contributed an additional $5,000.
“What a way to celebrate Galentine’s Day,” said Willimer.
I Support the Girls provides an important and intimate service, distributing essential items including undergarments and menstrual hygiene products to individuals suffering from a range of hardships including homelessness, domestic violence, natural disasters and poverty. Formed by Willimer in 2023, this new group is part of a global initiative with affiliates in 22 states and six countries. Each affiliate determines where and how to get essential items into the hands of those who need them.
In Sussex County, supplies and funding come from individuals, donation drives, fundraising events and corporate donations. ISTG coordinates donations to support clients of more than 18 organizations in Sussex County, including Shepherd's Office, Delaware Adolescent Program Inc., What is Your Voice, Higher Ground and more. Members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware commit to donating $100 every three months. At quarterly luncheons, three members are selected to make a pitch for their favored local nonprofit, and the voting that follows determines the recipient for that round of giving.
