Members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware donated $9,255 to La Esperanza in Georgetown Nov. 17 to help with immigration services.
The money will be used to support immigrants on their pathway to citizenship, integration and success through their Department of Justice-accredited immigration counseling services, said Jennifer Fuqua, executive director of La Esperanza. Bryant Garcia, immigration program coordinator, said the path to citizenship has become complicated and can take one to five years, depending on a person’s circumstances, education and country of origin.
“It’s important to have proper legal counsel,” he said.
La Esperanza on Race Street was founded in 1996 by three Carmelite sisters to support the area’s Hispanic community.
