Eli Steverson, 95, of the Lewes-Milton area, has seen a lot of Memorial Days during his life. Too young to enlist during World War II, he was quick to join the U.S. Army in 1948, when he turned 19 years old. He was soon shipped to Japan and then took part in beach landings in Korea.

After one year in Korea, he was sent to Army Signal School and was assigned to Army intelligence for 19 years. After retirement, he worked and retired from a job at a hospital in upstate New York.

He and his wife, Yvonne, decided to move to the area 40 years ago after visiting friends. He has been a member of Goshen United Methodist Church for more than 30 years. His wife died in 2020.

On May 26, Steverson marched down the aisle with the U.S. flag during the Goshen Memorial Day service in Milton. Steverson, who can still wear his original dress uniform, has been taking part in his church’s ceremony for years.
