AAUW to focus on Nanticoke culture and legacy March 20

AAUW Coastal-Georgetown Branch will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at The Lodge at Historic Lewes.

Featured speaker Bonnie G. Hall, EdD, will discuss the history and lasting legacy of the Nanticoke people.

A lifetime resident of Sussex County, Hall will talk about the Indigenous teachings and women’s traditional roles in local Native American culture as well as the history of the Nanticoke tribe, the challenges they face and the significant milestones they have achieved.

A five-year member of the Nanticoke Tribal Council, Hall works tirelessly to preserve the rich history, heritage and culture of the Nanticoke. Currently, she serves as chair of the commemoration and scholarship committees for the Nanticoke Indian Association and is a member of the Committee on Native American Ministry within the Peninsula-Delaware Conference.

After 29 years of distinguished service, Hall retired from Delaware Technical Community College in 2010. She is a member of the University of Delaware’s Sea Grant Advisory Board, and a board of directors member for Beebe Healthcare and Milton Chamber of Commerce.
