The agenda has been released for the celebration of life for former Lewes Mayor Ted Becker.
The event will start promptly at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at Canalfront Park. Becker led the campaign to create the park and preserve the Lewes waterfront.
Former Lewes Mayor Jim Ford will deliver welcoming remarks. Elected leaders will speak about Becker’s longtime service to Lewes and Delaware.
The city and the Greater Lewes Foundation are jointly planning the service, in coordination with Becker’s partner Joe Stewart. They are urging people to arrive early and bring lawn chairs and blankets, as seating under the tent will be limited.
Becker, 75, died Oct. 6. He was first elected to city council in 2004. He was appointed deputy mayor and treasurer in June 2011, under then-Mayor Jim Ford.
Becker was elected mayor in May 2014, after Ford did not seek re-election.
Becker had just begun a term as vice president of the Lewes Chamber of commerce.
He also served on the Greater Lewes Foundation board and as a commissioner for the Delaware River & Bay Authority, among other committees and groups throughout Delaware.
