ALERT: Boil water order lifted in Lewes, low pressure possible on beach side

August 21, 2024

The Lewes Board of Public Works has now lifted the boil water order for all of its customers, after water samples tested at a state lab came back clear.

The order was issued Aug. 20 after a water main under the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal failed around 3 a.m.; that caused most BPW customers to lose water service. Service was gradually restored to everyone throughout the day.

A dive team was called in to inspect the three water mains that run under the canal.

Austin Calaman, BPW general manager, said the divers will take videos and make any necessary repairs.

He said customers on the beach side of the canal might still experience low water pressure at times.
