Alice Marie Dein Schaller, loving mother, grandmother
Alice Marie Dein Schaller, 90, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, at her home in Millsboro. She was born Oct. 17, 1933, to Rufus William Dein and Alice Zorie Dein.
Alice grew up on Long Island, N.Y., in Farmingdale, and had many happy memories of school, friends, and family there. She also lived in Bay Shore, N.Y., and Sayville, N.Y., before moving to Delaware in 2003.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her lifelong companion, James Poff; and her great-grandson, Rowan Hostettler. She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Susan Ayling (Christopher Landis), Kathleen Kaigh (Edward) and Nancy O’Connor (Raymond); her dear sisters (and best friends), Joan Picaut of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Dolores Pike of West Islip, N.Y. She was a loving grandmother to Alison Kaigh Cataldo, Kenneth Garritano, Edward Kaigh, Christine Garritano Gayron, Molly Kaigh Cinquemani, Paul Garritano and Elizabeth Kaigh Hostettler. Alice adored her 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special cousin, Stephanie Zorie; her wonderful nieces and nephews; and Diane, Grace, and other dear friends.
We are grateful for her lifetime of love and strength.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Kilian RC Church, 485 Conklin St., Farmingdale, N.Y., followed by a reception at the Gayron Residence, 50 Main St., Farmingdale.
