Allan Wallace Ottley III, accomplished chef

Allan Wallace Ottley III, known by many as “Butch,” went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at his home in Laurel. He was born July 13, 1950, in Chincoteague, Va., to Allan Wallace Ottley II and Geraldine (Sherman) Ottley.

He attended Dover High School in Dover Plains, N.Y., and worked for several years for the State of New York before beginning his career as a chef. He attended classes at The Culinary Institute of New York in Hyde Park. Allan worked at Four Brothers in Amenia, N.Y., for many years before moving to Georgetown with his family in 1991, where he managed the Pizza Palace in Millsboro, Laurel, and Delmar until 2008 when he retired.

Allan is survived by his wife, Vanessa (Limoges) Ottley; and his children, Martin Ottley (Uniontown, Pa.), Anna (Aaron) Phillips (Brighton, Colo.), Carolyn (Fred) Mahakian (Windsor, Colo.), Allan W. Ottley IV (Tupper Lake, N.Y.), Joel Ottley (Tupper Lake), Julie Ottley (Laurel), Bridget (Casey) Cramer (Laurel), and Peter Ottley (Laurel). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Aaron “Andy” and Alison Phillips, Cass and Aster Mahakian, Aryanna Ottley, and Joel, Shawn, Alexis, Hope, Wyatt and Toby Ottley. He also leaves a brother, Michael Ottley; and many nieces and nephews. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Peggy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
