Anita Catherine Heacook, loving mother, grandmother

Anita Catherine Heacook, 91, of Delmar, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

She was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Paterson, N.J., daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Feeney) Carr.

She graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in 1955. She worked throughout the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland as a nurse. In 1956, she married Joseph B. Heacook and they had seven children.

She is survived by children, Maryalice (Fernando) Berrios of Tennessee, Thomas Heacook of New Jersey, Kathleen Heacook of Delaware, Anita (Dan) Feaster of Maryland, and Tracey West-Ney from a previous relationship with their son, Matthew Heacook; daughter-in-law, Susan Heacook; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Marguerite (Roger) Schwartz of Florida; brother, Kevin (Margaret) Carr of Texas; and close friends from nursing school, Isabelle Cooper of New York, and Ruth Idequchi from Hawaii.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by an infant son (1972); her husband Joseph B. Heacook Sr. (1992); daughter Bethann Heacook (2017); son Joseph B. Heacook Jr. (2020); and son Cpl. Keith A. Heacook (2021). She was also preceded in death by a sister Carol Garth; brother-in-law Alpha Garth; sister-in-law Dolores Carr; and brother Thomas Carr.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Delmar. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
