Ann Plumer Gruber, devout Catholic

Ann Plumer Gruber, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Brandywine Assisted Living, Rehoboth Beach. She was born Dec. 14, 1932, to Joseph A. and Frances T. Plumer.

A graduate of St. Patrick Academy in Washington, D.C., Ann married Edmond Gruber Feb. 5, 1955, at St. James Catholic Church in Mt. Rainier, Md. Together, they enjoyed many years of marriage until his passing. Ann worked as a secretary for the Department of Energy until her retirement.

Ann was a devoted Catholic who prayed the rosary daily. She was a long-standing member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Dravosburg, Pa. She had a passion for ceramics, gardening, cards, and bowling, and was an active participant in her community's garden club.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Brink; her brother, Joseph Plumer; and nieces and nephews, Cynthia (Paul) Rose, Edward (Carrie) Brink Jr., Kathleen (David) Strother, Patricia (Alfred) Zulueta, Cheryl Jackson, Bettyanne Fale, Francis Allen Jr., Karen (Jim) Ruff, Joseph (LeAnne) Plumer, Lynn (George) Yanovich, Francis Plumer, Jennifer Plumer Yeatts, Maura Plumer and Kayla Plumer. Ann also leaves behind many great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. and Frances T. Plumer; her husband, Edmond Gruber; her brother, Francis X. Plumer; her aunt, Marie K. Van Tassell; her uncle, Merrill Van Tassell; her brother-in-law, Edward J. Brink Sr.; her sister-in-law, Annabell Plumer; and her nephew, Timothy J. Brink; and nephews-in-law, Walter Jackson and William A. Fale.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, with visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ann will be remembered for her loving spirit, strong faith, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
