Artists reception set at Gallery 37 in Milford April 19
Gallery 37 - A Destination for Artful Living in downtown Milford is hosting an invitational group exhibition of 16 artists and artisans working only in black and white. A reception is set for 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 19.
The Power of Black and White show will include work by Delaware artists as well as artists from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. Each individual artist has created one-of-a-kind works in black and white in his or her area of expertise. Represented in this show will be a variety of work including photography, wood engravings, mono prints, encaustics, a handmade/welded lamp, pottery, collage, mixed-media drawing, polymer clay and sculpture. Each piece in this show was created specifically for this exhibit theme.
One notable and emotionally packed piece is by Slaughter Beach resident Doreen Bender. Her fiber quilt is titled “Ashes/Timbers,”and it holds great significance to Bender as she has been coping with the loss of her home in a fire Christmas night.
In a world that flashes color with intense lights, bright, colorful electronic billboards and bold color ads in magazines, viewers are seduced daily by color. Black and white makes one look at the form and structure, and the purity of the object or image.
The exhibit will run through Thursday, May 31. Gallery 37 is at 8 South Walnut St., Milford. For more information, call 302-265-2318.
