Atlantic Lacrosse teams compete in ESYLA championships

June 1, 2023

The Eastern Shore Youth Lacrosse Association held its championship May 20 at DE Turf for both the U12 and U14 divisions.

This championship series featured the top four teams from the regular season in a survive-and-advance showdown. Atlantic Lacrosse sent four teams to championship weekend.

The Atlantic girls’ program qualified both its U12 and U14 teams. The U12 girls started the day versus Talbot Lacrosse Club of Easton, Md. Atlantic struggled in the early-morning rain, trailing 4-0 at the half. In the second half, the girls dug in and fought back, but ultimately the deficit was too large, as they fell 6-4 to Talbot.

The U14 girls also had to endure the early rain, but sprang to a quick lead and dominated Beach Lacrosse Club of Berlin, Md., with a 14-0 victory. That secured a berth in the U14 championship, where Atlantic faced a talented Diamonds Lacrosse Club of Camden. Atlantic was tested early and fell behind early. Atlantic’s talent and depth quickly kicked in, as the team took control of the game and cruised to a 14-10 victory.

The Atlantic boys’ program also qualified both its U12 and U14 teams for the championship. The U12 boys started the day against a fierce opponent in Kent Island Lacrosse Club of Kent Island, Md. Kent jumped on the Atlantic boys early. Atlantic fought hard and tallied several goals, but it was not enough to overcome Kent. Atlantic fell 10-5.

The U14 boys followed, facing Beach Lacrosse Club. The game was extremely physical and an absolute grinder. Beach jumped on Atlantic early with a quick goal. Atlantic’s defense and goaltending stood strong the rest of the game, as Atlantic squeezed out three goals for a 3-1 victory to advance to the championship. In the final, Atlantic faced Camden Lacrosse Club. Atlantic’s offense set the tone early, as the team jumped to a quick lead. Camden challenged Atlantic’s defense with a number of skilled players, but in the end, Atlantic won 9-4.

Atlantic Lacrosse Club is a recreational club based out of the Lewes/Rehoboth area. The organization is devoted to exposing the game of lacrosse to new players and helping experienced players enjoy the game to its fullest. Good sportsmanship is as important as the fundamentals of the game at Atlantic. We encourage all area boys and girls with an interest in lacrosse to give the game a try.
