Audrey Govatos, one of a kind

June 3, 2024

Audrey Govatos, 80, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was born Aug. 23, 1943, in Chestertown, Md., daughter of William Clyde Poore Sr. and Anna Pauline Johnston of Smyrna.

Audrey leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her son, Glenn and wife Rachel; granddaughter, Sophie; daughter Crystal; grandson Kyle and wife Heather; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Faith.

Known for her warm, caring nature, Audrey always prioritized others before herself. She had a deep love for children, animals, and charity work. Audrey dedicated over 35 years to serving students in Lake Forest School District and served as Bus Driver No. 31 for D&N Bus Service. She was an active supporter of the Special Olympics, raising funds as a proud member of the Lewes Polar Bear Plunge Crew for over 25 years.

Audrey was admired for her straightforward and honest opinions, even if they were at times too transparent, but that is who we loved. Her quick passing has left those who knew her deeply saddened and in disbelief. Audrey will be profoundly missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. She was truly one of a kind.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at Berry-Short Funeral Services chapel, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19716, in memory of Audrey Govatos.

Online condolences and memories can be shared with the family at shortfuneralservicesandcremation.com.
