Bagpiper plays for 99th birthday celebration
Celtic bagpipe music filled the air May 25 as Tidewater Landing resident Frank Mullin celebrated his 99th birthday. Scores of neighbors, relatives and friends gathered for the occasion in the yard of his daughter Kathleen Staudmyer and her husband Gerry.
At noon, Pipe Major Tim Kline appeared in his authentic regalia as a member of Delaware Celtic Society and Pipe Band.
“Somehow, we managed to keep all of this a complete surprise for Dad, while he was on the terrace enjoying Saturday’s perfect weather,” said Kathleen. Mullin’s 5-year old great-grandson, Kaden, had traveled from Texas for the occasion and was fascinated by the bagpipe music.
The event include a cake with candles and a robust rendition of “Happy Birthday,” along with celebratory libations and a toast.
