Barbara J. Myers, loved her family

Barbara J. (Mitchell) Myers, 86, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Monday, June 19, 2023, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born in Oil City, Pa., one of two sets of twins in a family of 11 children who were born to the late Carle N. and Clara H. (Gaisford) Mitchell. Barbara and her family moved down to the outskirts of Lewes in 1982. She and Bill had a popular produce stand at the old farmhouse on Camp Arrowhead Road for many years. Barbara also worked for over 15 years as a cashier at Lloyd’s IGA in Lewes, retiring in 2018.

Barbara loved her family but was especially grateful to have the opportunity to care for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was known for her signature red lipstick and perfume, perfectly styled hair, and stash of Lifesaver peppermints in her purse. She also kept herself busy knitting, and especially loved knitting washcloths.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Myers in 2006; a grandson, Joshua C. Myers in 2019; and five siblings, Janet Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Pat (Ditzenberger), Carolyn Benson and Sandy Smith.

Barbara is survived by three children, Carle Myers, Clara Bridges (Robert) and Dorothy Myers; five grandchildren, Jennifer Rose (David), Richard L. Hart, Jeramey “Frog” Lynch (Meghan Colegrove), Kasey Clark (Kenny) and Scott Myers (Sarah); seven great-grandchildren, Chaeli Rose, Xander Rose, Kate Clark, Benjamin Myers, Drew Myers, Lily Lynch and Justin Myers; five siblings, Jean (Goede), Alice Hines, Beverly (Tudor) (Jim), Barry Mitchell and Gordon Mitchell (Anne); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, July 3, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton.
