Barbara Jane Parr, Rehoboth Art League member

Barbara Jane Parr, 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at her home in Rockaway Township, N.J.  Barbara was born at home in Nolan’s Point, Jefferson Township, June 3, 1940, to the late Joseph and Helen Hegedus.  Formerly from Lower Berkshire Valley in Roxbury Township, she raised her family of three boys, who were her biggest pride and joy, with her high school sweetheart and her husband of 41 years, Myron “Whitey” Parr, who passed away in 1999. She was also predeceased by her brother, Joseph Hegedus. 

After raising her children and retiring as manager of the Dover General Hospital gift shop, Barbara and Whitey moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1997.  Barbara became involved in the Senior Olympics for swimming, excelled in the butterfly and breaststroke, and won many medals, gold, silver, and bronze.  Barbara was also a member of the Rehoboth Art League where she took up painting and ceramics. She sold her pieces at art shows where they were displayed and showcased. 

Barbara loved to travel around the world and took her grandchildren on many trips, cruises, and vacations at the Jersey Shore and Rehoboth Beach.  Barbara leaves behind her three sons and their spouses, Michael and Michele of Salem, Mass., Thomas and Mary Jane of Roxbury, N.J., and Matthew and Debbie of Allamuchy, N.J. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, TJ, Trevor and wife Kim, William, Holly, Tucker, Sophie, Joseph, Evan, Alli Rose, Liam, and Emma.  Barbara is also survived by her dear sister, Helen Hunter Sharpe; her longtime friend and companion, Gene Kline; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Friends may visit from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Davis & Hepplewhite Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Succasunna, N.J., with a funeral service at 5 p.m.
