Barkfest pups strut their stuff
After frigid forecasts led organizers to cancel the SPCA pet pageant portion of the sixth annual Barkfest celebration, Bank Street got a whole lot quieter.
But some pets (and their owners) decided the show must go on and a few of the potential pageant pups still strutted their stuff on the streets of downtown Lewes last Saturday, Feb. 11.
Lewes residents Pam Davison and C.J. Suter declared their pups, Algernon, a French bulldog, and Tille, a Havanese, the unofficial winners as they paraded the pups up Second Street in a stroller with heart-shaped balloons attached.
"Since the pageant is cancelled, we are declaring Algernon and Tillie the unofficial, official winners," Suter said. "The theme is Puppy Love."
Since no official judges were on-hand to verify the claims, potential contestants scattered themselves along Second Street, for an informal pet pageant parade, owners in tow.
