Baroque to Bluegrass performances to open Aug. 7
Fans of Baroque, bluegrass and musical styles in between will enjoy Baroque to Bluegrass performances by the Celtic to Classical ensemble at four southern Delaware locations.
Led by violinist and pianist Sheridan Seyfried, the ensemble of critically acclaimed and award-winning musicians is marking its third summer at the shore with a program including Corelli’s “Concerto Grosso in D Major, No. 4”; original music by Sheridan Seyfried; the first two movements of Schoenfeld’s “Café Music”; a medley of bluegrass tunes highlighting the energy of dueling fiddles; and even some Celtic music.
The Baroque to Bluegrass program will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Georgetown; Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach; Thursday, Aug. 9, at St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach; and Friday, Aug. 10 at Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford.
There is no admission charge, but freewill offerings will be accepted.
Joining Seyfried are Grammy Award-winning cellist Jonah Kim; violinist Dennis Kim, an internationally renowned concertmaster; Sean Kennard, described by The Washington Post as "a strong and luminous pianist"; and violinist Alexis Meschter, a Delaware native and winner of the Peabody Institute's William Marbury Competition.
Jonah Kim has performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. The Washington Post has called him “the next Yo-Yo Ma,” and he is a highly sought-after soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
Dennis Kim is internationally known as one of the leading concertmasters of his generation, having served in that role with the Hong Kong, Seoul and Buffalo philharmonics, and currently with the Pacific Symphony in California. He plays a Stradivarius violin (the “ex-Dushkin”) on permanent loan from a donor.
Winner of numerous international piano competitions, Sean Kennard is a graduate of the Curtis Institute, the Juilliard School and Yale University, and is associate professor of piano at Stetson University in Florida.
Seyfried, whose parents Elise and Steve Seyfried founded the venerable Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre in 1982, spent many summers at the beach while growing up. He studied composition at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music and plays violin and piano.
