Bayhealth celebrates Fellowship Match Day
Bayhealth hosted a Fellowship Match Day celebration Dec. 5 to announce the inaugural class of its gastroenterology fellowship program, and the second class of the hematology and medical oncology fellowship program.
Both three-year programs are the first of their kind in Delaware and will train the next generation of specialists in the community.
The fellows joined the celebration virtually, and each shared a few words about their excitement to begin training at Bayhealth in July 2025.
Bayhealth became the first teaching hospital in central and southern Delaware in 2020 and has continued to expand its graduate medical education programs ever since. The gastroenterology fellowship program was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in July 2024, expanding the Bayhealth GME roster to four residency and two fellowship programs.
Fellows are physicians who have finished residency and gain advanced training under experts in a specific specialty of medicine. They work closely with experienced faculty members who are leaders in their respective subspecialties, thereby gaining invaluable clinical knowledge and skills while expanding access to patients and community members.
“We were thrilled to learn the names and see the faces of the four new fellows who will join our Bayhealth family next summer,” said Gary Siegelman, MD, MSc, CPE, Bayhealth senior vice president, chief medical officer and GME-designated institutional official. “As the hematology oncology program grows and the gastroenterology program begins, we remain committed to providing exceptional fellowship training, not only to help propel these physicians into their future careers, but to continue to provide access to the highest quality of care to our ever-expanding community.”
The Bayhealth internal medicine and family medicine residencies were also excited to learn that a collective six PGY3 residents matched into fellowships that they will begin in July.

Originally from Boston, Mass., Bhatia attended Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and completed an internal medicine residency at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, Mass. Bhatia completed a hepatology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
