Bayhealth pharmacy residency earns 8-year accreditation

Bayhealth’s pharmacy residency programs recently earned an eight-year accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Its two postgraduate year one programs provide advanced, hands-on training to build on the doctor of pharmacy degree. One is geared to the inpatient hospital setting, and the other focuses on various ambulatory care components. With both designed to prepare pharmacists for board certification and future practice as highly skilled pharmacy practitioners, Bayhealth is playing an important part in preparing pharmacists for in-demand clinical roles to help patients and the community with their medication-related care.

First launched and accredited in 2003, Bayhealth’s pharmacy residency programs have been training the next generation of pharmacists for the healthcare workforce. Pharmacy residents work in various settings and as part of an integrated healthcare team to ensure patients have access to and are well informed about medications and their safe use to maintain and improve their health.

“This accreditation is a testament to our team’s commitment to best meeting the needs of our local population, and in particular the dynamic leadership of Bayhealth Pharmacy Residency Program Coordinator Celeste Williams, PharmD, BCPS, who leads and is the residency program director for the hospital-based program, and our first residency program director for the ambulatory pharmacy-based PGY-1 program, Cameron Golden, PharmD, BCACP,” said Cheri R. Briggs, BS, PharmD, MBA, FACHE, Bayhealth senior director of pharmacy services. “The excellent work they are doing in elevating our pharmacy residencies is successfully providing long-term pharmaceutical care within our integrated healthcare system here at Bayhealth and beyond to the people who need it.”
