Beach Blast Lax Tournament on target at Cape

June 26, 2024

The 2024 Beach Blast lacrosse tournament made its annual stop at the Cape Henlopen High School sports fields June 22-23, where top teams from around the East Coast battled it out in the sweltering heat and humidity.

The weather was hot, hot, hot and the players were scorching the twine.

There were 43 teams participating with age groups from graduation dates of 2027 through 2033. Groups took to eight fields and competed in 50-minute games with frequent water breaks during the competition.

Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club fielded five teams ranging from class of 2028-32.

The two-day Beach Blast tournament, run by Sue Murphy and Courtney Vaughn, is the Cape Region’s premier lax tournament.

“Our Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club teams played against some high-caliber teams from across the country representing Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Ohio,” said Leigh Rupar, Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club program and recruitment director. “With a smaller tournament this year, there were no brackets, so it’s always good to see where our teams from Delaware match up against high-quality opponents from historically strong lacrosse states.”
