Each fall, Beacon Middle School art students participate in the annual Lions Club Peace Poster competition, an art contest hosted by Lions Clubs around the world.
Students are tasked with creating posters that express their visions and views of peace in order to inspire the world through art and creativity. It is an international competition with winners advancing from local to state to regional, then national contests, before reaching the international level of competition.
Each year, one student is selected from Beacon as a local winner, and this year that student also earned the state honor as well. Eighth-grader Brianna Loper created a poster with the center image as an eye, surrounded by figures she perceives to represent peace and love.
The Lions Club recognized four other Beacon students, Tom Foster, Bertha Scott, Alex Louvis and Brenda Milbourne, for outstanding work on their posters.
