Beebe honors Dr. Anis and Sue Saliba with naming ceremony
The Beebe Medical Foundation and Beebe Healthcare recently celebrated the naming of the Dr. Anis and Sue Saliba Family Waiting Room, located at the second-floor Same Day Surgery area above the west entrance at Beebe Medical Center. Surrounded by members of the Saliba family, physicians, nurses, and many grateful patients who were cared for by Dr. Saliba, Beebe leaders unveiled a portrait and plaque commemorating Dr. Anis and Sue Saliba’s lifetime of generous giving.
The Salibas emigrated from Lebanon to the United States in the 1960s in search of the American dream. Settling in Lewes in 1967, Dr. Saliba earned three board certifications (general surgery, thoracic surgery, and surgical critical care) and performed countless surgeries, while also providing patients with routine medical care. Perhaps his most enduring legacy was his selfless service to the indigent and uninsured people of Sussex County. Amazingly, more than half of Dr. Saliba’s patients received “no charge” notations on their medical charts.
Sue Saliba was a strong advocate for community health, helping Beebe develop protocols to recognize victims of domestic violence. She served on the board of Prevent Child Abuse Delaware and promoted women’s health as president of Delaware Medical Alliance.
In retirement, Dr. Saliba continues to serve on the Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors. Sue Saliba has served as a trustee of Delaware Technical Community College.
Judy Aliquo, president and CEO of Beebe Medical Foundation, thanked the Salibas for their lifetime of giving, and establishing an endowment with Beebe Medical Foundation and a scholarship at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing.
“The Salibas’ loyal and strong generosity over so many years is amazing and inspirational,” said Aliquo. “You have set a wonderful example for us all on how important it is to give back to others.”
“While we celebrate and reflect on the history of the Salibas’ giving over the years, the naming of this waiting area is also a celebration of the future,” said Thomas J. Protack, vice president of development for Beebe Medical Foundation. “The endowments established by the Salibas will contribute to the future of not only Beebe Healthcare, but of the nurses who will be educated and trained at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing.”
