Beebe Miracle Mile to celebrate cancer survivorship June 2

May 28, 2024

Each year, Beebe Healthcare hosts its Miracle Mile event to unite people whose lives have been touched by cancer and celebrate survivorship.

This year, the event will be held at 9 a.m., Sunday, June 2, at Beebe’s Specialty Surgical Hospital, 19161 Healthy Way, Rehoboth Beach.

Walkers can meet at the Specialty Surgical Hospital and together will walk a lap around the Abessinio Health Campus.

“This event brings our community together in a special way,” said Maurice Winkfield, executive director of Beebe Oncology Services. “The cancer journey can be a long and emotional one for patients and their families. The Miracle Mile event celebrates that journey and reinforces that they are not alone. It also gives patients an opportunity to reconnect with their care providers from Beebe and to express appreciation for the excellent care they have received.”

The Miracle Mile event supports Beebe’s Cancer Patient Special Needs Fund, which is facilitated by Beebe Medical Foundation. This program provides financial assistance to cancer patients who are facing personal hardships, and who may have difficulty paying for prescriptions, co-pays, medications, living expenses and transportation.

“Our goal is to help care for the whole person and address barriers to care that our patients face. For many, these needs go beyond their medical care, including financial barriers,” said Rita Williams, MA, CHES, NBC-HWC, manager of oncology psychosocial services at Beebe. “The proceeds from our Miracle Mile event go toward the special needs fund and allow us to help meet our cancer patients’ needs when they are facing one of life’s toughest challenges.”

The Miracle Mile event is open to the public. To register, go to beebehealthcare.org/miracle-mile. For more information, call 302-291-6707.
