Beebe named best in state for patient safety and outcomes

July 1, 2024

Beebe Healthcare’s commitment to bringing the highest-quality, safest care to Sussex County was recognized by the most recent Lown Institute Hospital Index report, released June 25.

The independent healthcare think tank ranked Beebe No. 1 in the state for patient safety and outcomes. Beebe’s Social Responsibility grade, which is Lown’s overall ranking reflecting performance across health equity, value and outcomes, was an A.

In addition to an A grade in patient safety and outcomes, Beebe also received an A in clinical outcomes, community benefit and cost efficiency, and was a top hospital for fair share spending, which recognizes systems for giving back to the community in amounts that exceed tax exemptions.

“Beebe Healthcare has been on a journey to transform its healthcare services to meet the growing needs of the people who live, work and visit in Sussex County. At the core of our strategic plan and initiatives is a laser focus ensuring that the highest-quality and safest care is provided for the people of Sussex County,” said Dr. David A. Tam, Beebe president and CEO. “It’s gratifying to see this hard work recognized by a national organization and only motivates us more to continue our ongoing efforts to provide the best healthcare to our patients.”

The Lown Institute graded more than 3,500 hospitals and 300 health systems nationwide in the fifth annual Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility. The report evaluates hospitals as total community partners, measuring health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes, in the only comprehensive measure of hospital social responsibility.

This report card furthers accolades for Beebe as the highest-ranked southern Delaware hospital by U.S. News & World Report in 2023, the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for safe and effective patient care, and a four-star quality care hospital according to CMS ratings.
