Beebe recognizes Jennifer Whaley's accomplishment as critical care nurse

Jennifer L. Whaley, RN, CCRN, Trauma Program manager at Beebe Medical Center, recently received national recognition for reaching a significant milestone in the nursing profession.

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses has honored Whaley for 20 consecutive years as a certified critical care nurse. The CCRN certification is one of the most advanced professional credentials a nurse can achieve in the field of acute and critical care. It requires ongoing professional education and leads to improved patient care.

“We are pleased to recognize Jen’s 20 years of excellence as a certified critical care nurse,” says Steven Rhone, RN, BSN, MS, NE-BC, vice president of Patient Care Services. “She has demonstrated a continuous commitment to patients, families, employers and colleagues alike.”

Whaley’s responsibilities are twofold at Beebe Medical Center. As the Trauma Program manager, she helps patients who have been subjected to a potentially life-threatening injury when they arrive at the Emergency Department. She also is involved in trauma prevention programs. As a critical care nurse in the hospital, she provides direct bedside care to patients who are acutely or critically ill. This includes participating in patient rounds with physicians and other care providers to ensure a continuum of care from the Emergency Department to the hospital room.

Whaley is also active in statewide programs for public safety and accident prevention. She serves as co-chair to the Delaware Injury Prevention Coalition of 2013, a program that implements statewide injury prevention efforts. Recent efforts include her participation in the state Department of Highway Safety’s Walking Dead campaign aimed at preventing pedestrian deaths.

Whaley joined Beebe Medical Center in 2000 as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Since 2004, she has worked in the Emergency Department as Trauma Program manager.
