Beebe Healthcare recently announced the addition of two new providers.

Omar Mahmoud, MD, and Serena Harris, APRN, NNP-BC, are both trained to provide specialized care for patients with critical healthcare needs.

Mahmoud is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician who offers the full spectrum of pulmonary care for adult patients with respiratory diseases such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer at Beebe Pulmonology Lewes. Board certified in internal medicine, he also cares for critically ill patients admitted to Beebe’s intensive care unit who are suffering from severe, life-threatening illnesses.

“I value Beebe’s commitment to accessible, innovative and patient-centered care,” said Mahmoud, who most recently served as a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellow at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. “It is a vibrant healthcare system, committed to high-quality care for patients throughout the region. My vision in coming here is to provide meaningful contributions to support the health and well-being of the community.”

Mahmoud earned his medical degree at the Università Degli Studi di Brescia in Brescia, Italy, and then completed his internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He completed his fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Mahmoud is a member of the Society of Mechanical Ventilation, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care and the American Thoracic Society. In addition to English, he is fluent in Italian.

Harris is a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner who manages care for newborns from their birth through discharge from the hospital. She specializes in care for high-risk infants, with focus on stabilizing newborns for transport to home and higher-acuity facilities. Harris also serves as an education resource for parents as well as nurses.

Harris began her career as a clinical staff nurse in the medical intensive care unit at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in New York, later serving as a clinical nurse and nurse practitioner in the Level III neonatal intensive care unit. She held this role while also working on a per diem basis as a neonatal nurse practitioner at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

“I am proud to be part of a dynamic team of neonatal specialists who are committed to caring for the community’s smallest patients and their families,” said Harris. She earned her associate of science degree in nursing from the Borough of Manhattan Community College and her bachelor of nursing degree from the University of Phoenix. She completed her master of science neonatal nurse practitioner degree from the University of Connecticut.
