Ben Wynne manages Club Fitness trainers in Rehoboth and Dover
Club Fitness in the old Rehoboth Mall is pushing toward its one-year anniversary with a large membership that includes 85 percent first-time gym joiners representing a diverse local community who will buy into the fitness model as long as The Club is state-of-the-art and affordable and open 24 hours a day.
Ben Wynne, a healthy and fit-looking 30-year-old former cross country runner at Milford and Wesley College, is the area manager for personal trainers in both Rehoboth and Dover Club Fitness locations.
'We have 10 trainers here at Rehoboth and they're always either personally training clients or helping people out on the floor," Ben said. “Trainers not only educate people but build relationships and help people stay committed to a lifestyle change. Every member gets a free consultation with a trainer; then it's up to them if they want to hire a personal trainer. It may be a financial sacrifice but most times motivated people see money they were spending on things not good for them being invested in their own health and self-improvement.”
Full-time trainers include Ben, Tim Hall, Rebecca Davidson, Tommy Psilopolous, Paul Ecker and Al Tortella.
Kerry Bowman, Mary Ellen Morris, Mike Donaruma and Kelly Harpe are part-time trainers.
'We have an additional 15 treadmills coming onto the gym floor,” Ben said. “We want to give back to members to always show them we care about them. Members who sign on with a personal trainer develop a relationship where the trainer is always available by text or email to offer advice. And we hold our trainers to a high standard of representing a healthy lifestyle and Club Fitness."
Dave Kergaard is the director of training at Club Fitness, which makes sense for the former Mr. Maryland, who has a lifetime devotion to maintaining personal fitness and staying ahead of the latest trends in the expanded world of fitness, like the use of med balls and lunges and other activities that may look somewhat silly to the skeptical observer.
“Dave is a great resource and very open minded,” Wade said. “All the trainers are committed to learning and helping each other so we can better serve our membership.”
This is the season when gym memberships spike as losing weight and getting stronger while extracting harmful habits from one's lifestyle represent the all-for-one, all- encompassing new year's resolution. The Club Fitness training crew already has 100 members signed on for that personal touch, and all members know the most basic questions, like "Do I face in or out on this machine?" and "Why is that guy repeatedly slamming a medicine ball into the floor?" will be quickly and courteously answered
