Bethany-Fenwick Chamber honors lifeguards

August 22, 2011

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce recognized six outstanding members of local area beach patrols Aug. 11 at its monthly membership meeting. The chamber presents annual Lifeguard Awards honoring outstanding men and women from Bethany Beach, Delaware Seashore State Park, Fenwick Island, Middlesex Beach, Sea Colony, South Bethany and North Bethany beach patrols for their dedication to keeping local beaches safe throughout the busy summer months. The award winners are chosen by their peers or captains each year.

The 2011 awardees include Daniel Veith, Bethany Beach Patrol; Cindy Murphy, South Bethany Beach Patrol; Ryan Richard, Delaware Seashore State Park; Lauren Patton, Sea Colony Beach Patrol; Andy Reisz, Fenwick Island Beach Patrol; Zach Jenney, North Bethany Beach Patrol; and Lindsay Guenter, Middlesex Beach Patrol. All the lifeguards were commended for their exceptional service to their patrols and to the local economy because safe, clean beaches are an important component in attracting tourists to the Quiet Resorts.

Following the Lifeguard Awards, the chamber presented checks for $500 to the towns of Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island and South Bethany to help fund lifeguard service on the weekends following the Labor Day holiday. This is the 18th year the chamber has supported this program.

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce is a coalition of nearly 800 business members in and around the towns of Bethany Beach, Clarksville, Fenwick Island, Frankford, Millville, Ocean View, Roxana, Selbyville, and South Bethany.  For more information, call the chamber at 302-539-2100.
