Betty Jane Forbes, Stockley Center retiree
Betty Jane Forbes, 63, affectionately called by her loved ones “Betty Boop,” was peacefully called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at home in Georgetown.
Betty Forbes was born in Whaleyville, Md., Oct. 5, 1950, to her late parents Monroe and Sarah Jones. Her early education started at Phillips C. Showell Elementary School, Selbyville up to the sixth grade; seventh through eleventh grade at Jason High School, Georgetown, and senior year at Selbyville High School with honors. Betty continued her education at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. Betty was employed at NCR (National Cash Register) in 1969; following their closing she was employed with First Omni Bank in Millsboro until 1998. Betty started working at the Stockley Center in Georgetown in early 2000 until October 2007.
Betty was a faithful member of Stein Highway Church of God since 1990. She was a member of the choir, praise and worship team, a children’s ministry teacher, and secretary of the women’s ministry. She served as the coordinator for her church trips, as well was a member of AARP Georgetown Chapter 5430. She enjoyed going to gospel concerts, traveling to visit love ones and planning her family reunions. One of her great loves was going sightseeing with her mother Sarah Jones. The Holland women loved seeing how the towns progressed in Sussex County over the years. As time passed, they told story after story about different events that occurred throughout their lifetime.
She is survived by her children Whitley DeWesley Forbes II of Georgetown, and Melissa DeWesley Forbes of Harrington; three brothers and two sisters, William Holland of Berlin, Md., Vernon (Lynda) Holland of Dagsboro, Regina (Charles) McCloud of Houston, Texas, Linda (Jeron) Duffy of Rehoboth, and Carl (Jean) Holland of Columbus, Ga.; three aunts, Gladys Mitchell of Selbyville, Audrea Smith of College Park, Md., Katherine Holland of Whaleyville; and one uncle, Leonard Smith of College Park, Md. Lifetime Sisters are Dorothy Mason, Roberta Mann, Jerry Bailey, Geraldine Green and Donora Elzey; with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
