Betty Jean Gordon, Giant Food retiree

Betty Jean Gordon, 68, of Georgetown, passed away at home Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born in Cheverly, Md., Monday, June 2, 1947, to the late George and Alys (Herring) McCaughey.

Mrs. Gordon was a 1965 graduate of Duvall High School in Lanham, Md. She then attended Washington School for Secretaries. She worked for Safeway and then retired from Giant Food. Mrs. Gordon married her husband Frank Gordon in 1982. They lived in Owings, Md. for 33 years until recently moving to Georgetown.

She enjoyed her cats, knitting, baking, spending time with her family, playing cards, watching her grandchildren's activities, and recently she had joined a bowling league. She was a member of the Red Hats Society of Calvert City, Md., Mount Harmony United Methodist Church of Calvert County, Md., and she attended Crossroad Community Church of Georgetown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Capt. Anne McCaughey. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Frank Bruce Gordon, of Georgetown; her four stepsons: Richard Gordon (Wendy) of Princess Anne, Md., Christopher Gordon (Debbie) of Colombia, Md., Scott Gordon of Port Republic, Md. and Ryan Gordon (April) of Centreville, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and her sister, Karen Chapman (Jeff) of Lottsburg, Va.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, March 11, at 11 a.m., at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Gordon's name may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Foundation, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958, or to The Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware Valley, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.
